Maltego uses a client-server architecture. A cracked client cannot talk to Maltego’s official transform servers. Without that connection, the tool is useless. A fake license key might bypass the "Insert Key" popup, but when you try to run a whois lookup or a DNS name transform, the server will reject the request with an error. You end up with a broken GUI and a compromised machine.

A few hours later, John received a response from Maltego's support team.
