Burning Spear's musical journey began in the late 1970s, performing in various Jamaican music groups. His distinctive, raspy vocals and songwriting skills quickly gained attention, leading to his collaboration with legendary producer, Bunny Lee. Spear's breakthrough came with the release of his debut album, "The Burning Spear", in 1975.
