Your L1800 uses ink for two purposes: printing and cleaning. During cleaning cycles, excess ink is flushed into an absorbent pad inside the printer. Epson programmed a counter to track this waste. When the counter hits 100%, the printer bricks itself to prevent overflow (which could leak onto your desk). However, in reality, the pad is often far from full. The counter simply needs a reset.
