Bukan merujuk pada perbudakan historis, frasa ini menjadi metafora kritis bagi posisi individu yang kehilangan otonomi karena struktur sosial, ekonomi, atau relasi interpersonal yang timpang. Dengan mengambil sudut pandang korban, tulisan ini membahas bagaimana relasi kuasa dibentuk, dialami, dan dilawan.
