The movie begins with Ash (played by Sam Raimi in the original series) passing on a book, the Necronomicon, to his niece, Linda (Kristen Connolly). Linda, along with her friends, Pablo (Pablo Perelman), Mia (Anna Hutchison), and Natalie (Fran Kranz), travel to a remote cabin, where they find the book. As they explore, they inadvertently unleash a horde of demons.
Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
